PERC, Environmental Defense, and the Reason Foundation cordially invite
you to be our guest at a luncheon briefing titled "The Role of IFQs in Improving Fishery Governance."
The purpose of the briefing is to provide you with an opportunity to hear
from three experts on individual fishing quotas (IFQs) and the important role they play
in improving the governance of fisheries.
Evidence suggests that IFQs are not only effective in eliminating the destructive race
for fish in ocean fisheries, they also contribute toward more effective fishery governance.
For instance, with IFQs in place, managers and fishery participants can observe their value
in the marketplace to assess whether a fishery is improving and whether changes add further
improvements. In addition, IFQs appear to strengthen monitoring and enforcement in the fishery.
Speakers include
- Michael Arbuckle: National Manager, Fisheries Management, Ministry of Fisheries, New Zealand
- Bruce Turris: President, Pacific Fisheries Management Incorporated, British Columbia
- David McKinney: Supervisory Special Agent, National Marine Fisheries Service
