Announcement of Second ITQs Luncheon Briefing April 23, 2004
PERC, Environmental Defense, and the Reason Foundation cordially invite
you to be our guest at a luncheon briefing titled "Examining the
Ecological Benefits of Individual Fishing Quotas (IFQs) in Ocean
Fisheries."
The purpose of the briefing is to provide you with an opportunity to hear
from three experts on how IFQs can help mitigate fishing impacts on ocean
ecosystems. Many scholarly studies have documented the economic benefits
of managing ocean fisheries with IFQs, but less has been written on how
IFQs affect conservation and the environment more broadly. The speakers
will discuss how IFQs can benefit coastal and marine resources through,
for example, more precise management of bycatch, less intensive fishing,
and greater involvement by fishermen in stock management.
Date: Fri. April 23, 2004
Time: 12:00 to 1:30
Location: Senate Russell Office Building, Room #253
Lunch will be provided by Senate Caterers.
We hope you can attend. Please RSVP by Fri. April 16 to Dana Joel
Gattuso, djgattuso@cox.net.
